Team USA Superlatives - 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships

PORTLAND, Oregon -- Team USA’s record-setting performance at the 2016 World Indoor Championships included several historically notable performances.

23 medals is a new record for any country at a single World Indoors, breaking 19 medals by the U.S. in 1999

13 gold medals breaks the previous record of 10, achieved by the U.S. in 2012

Michelle Carter set an American indoor record in the women's shot put with her mark of 20.21m/66-3.75

Carter also became the first U.S. woman to win the shot at the WIC. She now owns the indoor and outdoor national records.

Matthew Centrowitz won the first men's 1500m gold ever by a U.S. runner.

With two medals in the men’s 800m, Team USA doubled its all-time total in the event, having previously won two medals total 

Brittney Reese won her third straight World Indoor long jump title, raising her total global championship gold count to nine.

Ashton Eaton became the first man ever to win three straight golds in the heptathlon at the WIC.

Nia Ali became only the second woman to win successive WIC 60m hurdles titles, the other being fellow American Lolo Jones (2008, 2010).

Jenn Suhr and Sandi Morris gave the U.S. a 1-2 finish in the women's pole vault for only the second time in WIC history. The only other nation to take the top two spots was Russia in 2003. Suhr's 4.90 is a WIC record.

Before Ashley Spencer and Quanera Hayes went 2-3 in the women's 400m final, only Sanya Richards-Ross and Natasha Hastings (2012) had given Team USA two women on the 400 podium at the same WIC.

At 20 years and 252 days, Trayvon Bromell is the youngest man to ever win gold in the 60 at the WIC. He is the seventh different American man to take gold in the event.

At 18 years and 62 days old, Vashti Cunningham is the youngest American ever to medal at World Indoors

Cunningham also is the youngest woman to win the high jump at WIC

Curtis Beach's 2:29.04 is the fastest 1000m ever run in a heptathlon at the WIC.

Ajee' Wilson won the first silver medal by an American in the women's 800m.

The men's 4x400m time of 3:02.45 is the third-fastest ever indoors.
