Laura Muir to Skip Commonwealth Games to Finish SchoolPublished by
Laura Muir Will Race at IAAF World Indoor Championships, But Not at Commonwealth GamesBy Adam Kopet Laura Muir will skip the Commonwealth Games so she can finish her final year of veterinary school at the University of Glasgow, according to Laura McGhie of BBC Scotland. The 24-year old from Scotland knew she would miss the event several years ago when she first began her veterinary studies. The problem is the distance to this year's Commonwealth Games, being held in Gold Coast, Australia in April. Had the event been closer to home, she might have been able to race. Muir will, however, compete at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham. She won European Indoor Championship gold in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters in 2017. Athletics Weekly reports that Muir opened her indoor season Sunday with a mixed-gender 3,000 at the GAA Miler Meet in Glasgow. She finished fifth overall in 8:37.21. |
