Birmingham's bid to host 2016 World Indoor Championships faces new threat from Portland OR11:26PM BST 17 Oct 2013 The International Association of Athletics Federations has confirmed that the American city has submitted a formal application to stage the meeting, which will bring together the world’s best athletes over three days of competition in March 2016. Birmingham, whose £2.5 million bid has been underwritten by the city council, was the only city to submit a bid by the IAAF’s original deadline of Sept 15 but the world governing body granted USA Track and Field extra time to put together a rival bid.
