Additional Seats for 2016 World Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sale August 10

PORTLAND, Ore. - For the first time in nearly 30 years, the world's greatest track and field athletes will compete on U.S. soil in the 16th IAAF World Indoor Championships this March.

The last event of this kind, held in Sopot in 2014, ended on a high note with a new men?s 4x400-meter world indoor record by Team USA.

Kyle Clemons, David Verburg, Kind Butler and Calvin Smith blew the 15-year-old record out of the water, clocking a 3:02.13. The stadium was in high suspense as the athletes stared at the board, knowing a world indoor record was within reach.

The results showed seven-tenths of a second shaved off the previous record. The quartet sprinted around the track in victory as 11,000 fans erupted in celebration.

Two years before that, it was Ashton Eaton who owned the meet?s world indoor record performance.

University of Oregon alum and OTC Elite?s Eaton prefaced his historic decathlon world record at the 2012 Olympic Team Trials with a men?s indoor heptathlon world record just four months prior.

Eaton set his heptathlon world record of 6,645 points in front of 7,450 fans at the Istanbul track in 2012. He dominated from start to finish ? in true Eaton style ? never finishing any lower than third place in a discipline. After a commanding victory in the final event, the 1,000-meter, Eaton left the other competitors in the dust with a spread of nearly 600 points over second place.

All-session ticket packages for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships go on sale Monday, August 10 at 9 a.m. (Pacific).

The four-day meet will be held in the Oregon Convention Center, featuring a new 200-meter track, infield and 7,000-seat stadium, with a special pole vault competition to be held at the Moda Center. This will be only the second time in the biennial event?s history that it is hosted in the U.S. since the inaugural meeting in 1987 in Indianapolis.
